Thoughts from Tonys verandah

When people return to Kenya  --  which most inevitably do  --  they feel an uplifting of their spirits as that old magic makes itself felt.   All our instincts are founded on our old, old genetic heritage.  The human race evolved in the Highlands of  East Africa.   When you come here you are coming back home.

There is solid ground on which to base our  claim to be a rare and unique part of our world.   As our understanding has improved of long term weather patterns it has been stated that if you are fortunate enough to live at high altitude on or near the equator  --  then you are fortunate indeed  --  for you will not suffer the extremes of winds,  temperature extremes,  tsunamis and other such awful happenings.  We started here and we have the best chance of surviving here.
We can also make other claims for the special qualities of Kenya   --  we have a wonderful variety of birds, beasts, trees, plants and,  scenery that changes with dramatic speed.   In one exceptional morning we counted 39 different kinds of birds from our veranda and there was on more that had to remain anonymous.   Within a 300 yard radius or our home there are over 70 different kinds of indigenous trees.

This may all sound incredible   --  the answer to that is that you should come and see it for yourselves.
