Samatian Island

EXPERIENCE SAMATIAN...

Set on a private island on Lake Baringo, in the heart of the Great Rift Valley, Samatian offers a unique safari experience in the legendary beauty of this area. Ultimately a laid back experience, Samatian is a perfect starting point for safaris, and also as a mid-safari break. The neighbouring islands, which are home to a multitude of birds, lizards, hippos and crocodiles, can be visited by boat with our professional guides and ornithological experts. Cultural interaction with the Njemps and Pokot tribes at colourful markets, or at their homesteads on the Northern shores of Lake Baringo, offer a completely different experience. Various watersports are on offer, including wake-boarding, knee-boarding and tubing, as well as canoeing, fishing and water golf. Walking on the Ruko Community Conservancy during the day is a great way to see wildlife and explore the mainland.

Children are more than welcome and for our younger guests we have fishing and a fantastic water trampoline. There is also a selection of books and games for children to enjoy.

Also on offer are half day excursions to see thousands of flamingos feeding in Lake Bogoria, an enchanting nearby soda lake; picnic lunches in the Tugen Hills, the largest range within the Great Rift, great birding opportunities as well as day trips to Lake Nakuru National Reserve, famous for its abundance of flamingos and wildlife.
