Education at the forefront of the SCC Conservation and Community Fund

Education...
A watchword for any involved with community work in Kenya. An unfettered passion for Kenyans, the
entrepreneurial, motivated population where education comes first. Where some of the members of our office would go hungry to ensure enough money for school fees. Manda Bay is very involved with Manda Primary School, where the community fight to give their children the chance of a better future through education. Manda Bay is helping the school with bursaries and educational materials, and currently has seven children on a bursary programme through a secondary school nearby, but Manda Primary school desperately needs help to develop the old nursery and primary school buildings as well as resources to be able to construct a new secondary school as well as boarding facilities to be able to offer the children of the island a better chance at life.
SCC Kenya is very excited to be helping a primary school in a slum near the main SCC offices at Wilson Airport known simply as 'Kijiji' (village in swahili). We provide food for the children to have one good square meal per day - and the ingredients we supply are flour from Kisima (a farm belonging to the Dyers), and oil as well from Kisima. The school has had terrible problems with rain washing the flimsy structure away from time to time, so using the offcuts and leftovers from Hogmead, as well as some donated timber from Kisima, we hope to rebuild the school entirely before the onset of the long rains! Jimmy Greenwood is spending some time with us tomorrow to film the 'before' scene with the children of the school, so hopefully in the future we will have some footage to show you. But for now, please take the time to watch this interesting film on Manda Primary:
